SARAA’s New CEO Announced

Dear SARAA Members, Partners, and Supporters,

We are thrilled to announce that Varo (they/them) has been appointed as the first Chief Executive Officer of the South Australian Rainbow Advocacy Alliance (SARAA).

Varo has been an integral part of the SARAA community for many years, serving as Chairperson and Treasurer during their tenure and consistently demonstrating their strong leadership abilities and advocacy skills. Their passion for fostering inclusivity and equality makes them a great choice to lead SARAA into this exciting new chapter.

Securing funding for this position has been a long-term goal for SARAA, reflecting our commitment to strengthening our organisational capacity and enhancing our impact in advocating for the LGBTIQA+ community across South Australia. We are confident that Varo will support the continued growth of SARAA, building on our successes and championing the rights and well-being of all South Australians.

The recruitment process was thorough and competitive, we received local, interstate and international applications. To ensure transparency and fairness, we followed our established policies and procedures, including utilising a predominantly external interview panel comprised of South Australian and national experts on the rights and health of LGBTIQA+ communities.

We are grateful to the panel members for their time, dedication, and invaluable contributions to this process. Their involvement was essential in ensuring a fair and unbiased selection process.

We are also pleased to announce that Leeann Friday (she/her) has been appointed as the Chairperson until our upcoming AGM. We are excited for the future of SARAA under Varo’s leadership and the Board’s guidance and are confident that our combined experience and commitment to our values will guide us toward continued success. Varo will officially begin their new role on 30 September 2024.

Please join us in congratulating Varo on their new role as CEO!
